Charleston is one of our favorite places. Read up, plan ahead,
and make the most of it. Some of our favorite things
to do and see below.
Food & Drink
leon’s oyster shop
Great vibe. Great fried seafood, but also great things that aren’t fried seafood like the frozen G&T. Go here. Lunch or dinner.
Rodney Scott bbq
You’ll be eating brisket and pulled pork from Lewis’ BBQ on Saturday, but you’re in the South and you’re probably from PA and you probably don’t actually know what good BBQ is, so eat it two days in a row, who cares. Rodney is a SC native and won a James Beard his first year open.
167 raw
Our favorite oyster joint in the city. Sean Rieflin, the guy who is running the seafood for the wedding, helped get this off the ground. It’s small and it’s popular, so expect a wait. And if they play dumb music, don’t blame us. Sometimes they do, but ya know.
Chez Nous
Romance! Get it on at Chez Nous. This place rules. If you’re here early, it’s a must. Simple French cooking at its finest.
xiao bao biscuit
Our awesome DJ for the wedding, Duolan, aka DJ Auntie Anne, runs Xaio Bao. Go hang and eat damn good Thai food. Laid back, good people, and good food. Lunch or dinner.
moe’s crosstown
We are aware that we’re getting married during football season. If you’re trying to catch a game and eat wings and not see the sun, Moe’s Crosstown the spot. If you want the same, but with sun, Hometeam BBQ is the other spot.
callie’s hot little biscuit
If you don’t go early, you’ll get caught in a crazy line and once you see and smell what’s happening in there you won’t want to wait. Wake up and go early!
Royal American
Outside of downtown, but our favorite bar in the city. Very dive-y. Music most nights. Maybe go post Saturday night bus.
Faculty Lounge
Is fun. Cocktails. Lotta locals. Used to be an old social club. Good vibes.
Sights
middleton plantation
Though it is a bit of a trip, it’s worth it. Fully recommend if you have some time. And Magnolia Plantation is also great. You’re in South Carolina, sores and all.
sullivan’s island
Another great beach town. Grab some wings and BBQ at Home Team out there and make your way to the beach.
botany bay
Petrified trees on the beach. It’s way out of town but super awesome. If you have bikes, it’s perfect. Either way, amazing. You can stop and eat at Flowers Seafood on the way. It’s fresh fish/oysters, but they also have a truck where they fry stuff up.
